Raw or Cooked, which is Best?

Q. Is it better to eat alkaline foods raw or cooked or is it the same?

A. Hey, great question. The answer is raw is the winner. However that does not mean you need to eat 100% of your food raw. Some foods are just better cooked. Think about a potato for example, it would be tough to choke one down raw.

Enzymes are the Reason

Broccoli is best eaten raw, and so are most other fruits and vegetables. The reason is enzymes. Fresh, raw, living foods are rich in enzymes. The best possible food is locally grown and organic. Living enzymes help to balance the pH in your body. They also provide a multitude of functions in the body. You couldn't think or breathe, without help from enzymes.

You have probably heard of digestive enzymes. Eating raw foods rich in enzymes, makes the digestive system happier. It doesn't have to work so hard. This is just one function of enzymes in the body.

Here's the problem, cooking food destroys enzymes - period.

Cooked food, means no enzymes.

Bottom Line

So the bottom line is this, if it's a food that you just wouldn't eat if it wasn't cooked, go ahead and cook it. Beyond that, shoot for more raw goodies. I personally eat large amounts of raw, organic vegetables and fruit.

Other things that may reduce enzyme activity in food:

  • Traveling long distance, on a truck or boat.
  • Produce being picked before it's fully ripe or mature.
  • Genetic engineering
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Lack of organic fertilizer
